The Provincial Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment, in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment and the People’s Committee of Dan Quyen Commune, Tam Nong District, has recently announced the decision to recognize two ancient white-flowered frangipani trees as Vietnam Heritage Trees.

The delegates took commemorative photos under the Vietnam Heritage Trees.

The two frangipani trees are located on the grounds of the Temple of the Holy Mother in Residential Area 6, Dan Quyen Commune. These ancient trees are also the oldest “living witnesses” of the region’s history, having witnessed numerous historical changes over the years. The site is closely associated with the Go Bong archaeological site from the post-Neolithic period, as well as the Thuong Nong communal house and Thuong Nong Pagoda from the Ly Thanh Tong period (12th century).

According to the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council’s assessment, these two ancient white-flowered frangipani trees are approximately 1,000 years old. The frangipani tree on the right of the temple has a trunk circumference of 3.5 meters and reaches a height of about 15 meters, while the frangipani tree behind the temple’s sanctuary has a trunk circumference of 3.6 meters and a height of 15 meters. Both trees feature large, ancient, moss-covered trunks that signify their long history. Despite their age, the trees continue to bloom, grow healthy leaves, and show no signs of pests or diseases.

Not only are these trees biologically valuable, but they also hold significant cultural and spiritual importance for the local community. The two white-flowered frangipani trees at the temple are important historical witnesses and symbols of local heritage.

The recognition of these trees as Vietnam Heritage Trees in Dan Quyen Commune contributes to raising awareness about environmental landscape protection, preserving and promoting the region’s historical and cultural values, protecting rare plant genetic resources, and emphasizing the role of the community in safeguarding natural landscapes. This event also highlights the humanistic values associated with protecting the natural environment and raises awareness among local residents.
