The 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival kicks off

The 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival in 2023 kicked off on December 11 at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition House.

Nguyen Thanh Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, ignited the flame to kick off the 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival in 2023.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai and delegates offered flowers and souvenir flags to the athlete delegations attending the event.

Leaders from the Ministry of Education and Training’s Department of Physical Education offered flowers to commemorate the 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai lighted the sacred fire symbolizing the honest and noble athletic spirit on the torch platform of the 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival at the start of the opening ceremony.

This year’s Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival will include almost 2,000 athletes from 58 delegations representing the Departments of Education and Training of the province’s districts, cities, towns, and high schools. Football, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, shuttlecock, athletics, stick pushing, swimming, and aerobics are among the nine sports in which athletes participate. Swimming, in particular, makes use of the results of the Provincial High School Swimming - Athletics Tournament in 2023.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Director of Education and Training, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 19th Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival in 2023 - recommends that the members of the Organizing Committee operate strictly and scientifically, strictly implementing plans and regulations, ensuring all athletes compete safely and maximize their abilities to achieve the best results. To appropriately evaluate an athlete’s skill, referee teams must operate with the spirit of “fairness, objectivity, and honesty,” accurately deciding the highest performance.

This is the largest sports festival for Phu Tho youngsters and is organized every four years to promote the Campaign ““All people exercise their bodies following Uncle Ho’s example” Thus, aiding in the improvement of health, stature, and physical development, as well as contributing to the achievement of the objective of comprehensive education and fostering the broad growth of school sports. This is also an opportunity for the Education and Training sector to choose exceptional athletes to compete in the National Phu Dong Sports Festival Region I and the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival, will be held in Hai Phong in 2024.

Following the opening ceremony, the competitors competed in all eight sports, including football, table tennis, volleyball, badminton, shuttlecock, athletics, stick pusshing and aerobics.
