Phu Tho continues to affirm its position as one of the country’s major export hubs. Alongside maintaining growth momentum, the province aims to elevate export quality, increase localization rates, develop supporting industries, and enable domestic enterprises to participate more deeply in global supply chains.

Exedy Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Khai Quang Industrial Park, Vinh Phuc Ward) provides stable employment and income for workers.
Over the past 9 months, the province’s total import-export turnover was estimated at over 95.8 billion USD; of which, exports reached over 39.3 billion USD and imports reached nearly 56.5 billion USD. The group of electronics, computers, phones, and components continued to play the primary role, accounting for approximately 80.3% of total export turnover. The United States, South Korea, and Japan were the 3 largest markets, accounting for 76.1% of the province’s total export turnover. These figures affirm the breakthrough of Phu Tho’s industry, especially in high-tech electronics. Thanks to advantages in location, infrastructure, and investment environment, the province has attracted many major projects and integrated deeply into global supply chains. The FDI sector not only increases export turnover and creates jobs, but also strongly drives local services, trade, and supporting industries.
With export volume reaching tens of billions of USD, the challenge is to increase the value added retained locally. According to a survey by the Department of Industry and Trade (September 2026) covering 10 major import-export enterprises, most still engage in production and processing based on designated orders from foreign parent companies. In the electronics sector, R&D, design, testing, and high-end component manufacturing remain undeveloped; core raw materials still rely on imports. Domestic enterprises only supply auxiliary materials (packaging, pallets, tape...), accounting for under 3% of raw material value.
According to Comrade Nguyen Phuong Hue, Deputy Head in charge of the Import-Export and International Integration Division (Department of Industry and Trade), the main reason for the limited participation of domestic enterprises stems from high requirements regarding technology, capital, technical manpower, production scale, and quality standards set by multinational corporations. Therefore, enhancing export value must begin with elevating the production capacity and connectivity of domestic firms.
To shift from simple supporting roles to directly meeting FDI enterprise demands, on April 9, 2026, the Provincial People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1102/QD-UBND approving the Scheme to Support Local Enterprises Participating in Global Supply Chains. The scheme deploys 6 key solution groups, highlighted by a plan to coordinate with at least 4 FDI corporations for technical assistance and domestic supplier development, helping local enterprises raise capacity and step-by-step enter high-value-added stages.
To realize this goal, provincial functional agencies are conducting detailed reviews of component, spare part, and raw material demands among major FDI enterprises. On this basis, the locality will select potential domestic enterprises to support technological innovation, process standardization, and supply chain matching. Alongside investment promotion conferences, networking activities target substantive cooperation: FDI enterprises optimize costs thanks to local supplies, while local firms gain access to orders, technology, and modern management methods.
In parallel, the province prioritizes attracting R&D, design, testing, and high-tech component manufacturing projects to increase added value, generate technical jobs, and foster technology transfer. For local signature commodity sectors such as agricultural products, food, wood, textiles, and plastics..., the primary direction centers on deep processing, standardization, and brand building to elevate export value. The Provincial People’s Committee issued Decision No. 2947 on August 28, 2026, regarding the Program “Reaching Out to International Markets for the 2026–2030 Period”. Alongside international economic integration plans, the program creates a framework to support enterprises in leveraging free trade agreements, connecting with Vietnam Trade Offices abroad, accessing importers, and expanding distribution channels.
In logistics, the province is formulating the Scheme to Develop Phu Tho into a Logistics Hub for the Northern Mid-Land and Mountainous Region for the 2026–2030 Period, with a Vision to 2050. Developing warehousing systems, dry ports, transport, and export support services is expected to reduce costs, enhance competitiveness, and create additional value from trade right within the province.
According to the roadmap of the Industry and Trade sector, 2026 focuses on resolving difficulties for enterprises, reviewing supporting industry demands, and driving connections between FDI and domestic firms. For the 2027–2030 period, the focus centers on raising localization rates, developing supplier networks, logistics, cross-border e-commerce, and attracting high-tech manufacturing stages.
With an export base of tens of billions of USD, Phu Tho stands before a great opportunity to shift from scale-based growth to elevating added value. Increasing localized content — from industrial components and deep agricultural processing to coverage under proprietary brands — will ensure export efficiency extends beyond mere turnover figures. This serves as the key for local technology, labor, and service resources to participate more deeply in value chains, generating sustainable development momentum for the local economy.
