Hoa Binh Lake is among the largest hydropower reservoirs in northern Vietnam, offering significant potential for tourism development and aquaculture. Its appeal lies in immersive experiences with indigenous cultures and community-based tourism. Covering a water surface area of about 8,900 hectares and spanning multiple highland communes in the former Hoa Binh Province, the lake boasts a diverse ecosystem with many rare freshwater fish species and rich vegetation. Surrounding the lake are villages of the Muong, Dao and Thai ethnic groups, creating a dense yet pristine cultural landscape. This is also an attractive tourism destination, rich in untapped potential.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant – considered the “heart” of the mystical lake area by night.

Tour boats on the lake offer cultural discovery journeys, allowing visitors to drift across emerald-green waters beneath vast open skies.

The lake’s surface remains crystal clear as clouds reflect upon it, creating a mystical beauty in the early sunlight.

Chua Thac Bo Temple — a renowned spiritual tourism site — attracts visitors from near and far who come to offer prayers and send their wishes for prosperity and well-being.

Lakeside homestays, featuring poetic scenery, fresh air and modern, professional services, have helped establish the reputation of Hoa Binh Lake tourism over the years. They not only underscore the strengths of the “green economy” along the lake but also provide momentum for the cultural tourism sector of Phu Tho Province.

Taking advantage of the lake’s water surface and terrain, numerous tourism villages and eco-tourism sites rich in cultural identity have emerged, offering unique explorations and experiences for both domestic and international travelers.

Aquaculture activities have brought significant economic benefits, creating jobs, increasing incomes and establishing the brand of Hoa Binh Lake fish on the aquaculture map of Phu Tho Province.
