Phu Tho Announces Preliminary Results of the 2026 Economic Census

On July 31, the Provincial Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census held a conference to review the implementation of the census and announce its preliminary results. The event was attended by members of the provincial steering committee and representatives from all 148 communes and wards across the province.

The 2026 Economic Census is a nationwide statistical survey conducted to collect fundamental information on economic establishments, administrative agencies, public service units, associations, and religious institutions throughout Vietnam. The census was carried out in two phases: Phase 1 from January 5 to March 10, 2026, and Phase 2 from March 1 to April 30, 2026.

Despite the large workload, extensive geographical coverage, and diverse survey subjects, Phu Tho implemented the census in a comprehensive and effective manner thanks to the coordinated efforts of the entire political system.

The province organized numerous professional training courses and mobilized 3,056 personnel to compile lists of household business establishments, 1,136 enumerators to collect information from household businesses, cooperative groups and religious establishments, and 687 enumerators to survey enterprises, cooperatives, non-public service units, associations and social organizations.

Overview of the conference.

Through close coordination among provincial authorities and the dedicated efforts of enumerators, Phu Tho became one of the first localities nationwide to complete the census ahead of the schedule set by the central government. The collected data met quality requirements and was officially accepted and rated “Excellent” by the Central Steering Committee.

Preliminary results indicate that the province’s economy has continued to expand, with the number of economic establishments increasing compared with the previous census, reflecting the strong development of the business sector and the ongoing transformation of the provincial economic structure.

As of December 31, 2025, Phu Tho had 18,817 active enterprises engaged in production and business activities, an increase of 9.5% compared with 2024, providing employment for 553,713 workers.

These figures confirm that Phu Tho continues to lead the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region, accounting for 44.9% of all enterprises and 52.5% of the region’s enterprise workforce.

The preliminary census also recorded 832 active cooperatives, 167,221 non-agricultural household business establishments, 449 non-public service units, 292 associations, 2,027 religious establishments, and 11 cooperative groups across the province.

The results of the 2026 Economic Census provide an important statistical database for assessing the current state and development trends of the provincial economy and society. The data will support the compilation of national statistical indicators, the formulation of development strategies and policies for the coming period, and the information needs of state management agencies.

The official results of the 2026 Economic Census are expected to be released in January 2027.

During the conference, delegates agreed that the 2026 Economic Census in Phu Tho introduced several notable innovations, particularly the comprehensive application of digital transformation and the integration of administrative data, which significantly reduced the time required for data collection and processing.

Participants also discussed practical issues encountered during implementation, shared effective experiences and innovative approaches, identified existing shortcomings, and proposed solutions to improve future statistical surveys.

Representatives of the Provincial Statistics Office also provided guidance on the effective use of census data and requested provincial departments, agencies and local authorities to incorporate the preliminary census results into socio-economic planning, policymaking and development strategies in order to maximize the value of the database.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to the successful implementation of the census, the Minister of Finance awarded Certificates of Merit to two organizations and seven individuals; the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee presented Certificates of Merit to seven organizations and 29 individuals; and the Head of the Provincial Statistics Office awarded Certificates of Commendation to 35 organizations and 326 individuals.
