At the recently concluded 2025 Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship in Singapore, the Vietnamese Wrestling Team delivered a stellar performance, topping the medal tally with a total of 42 medals, including 24 golds, 15 silvers, and 3 bronzes.
Among the standout performances was Phu Tho’s rising star Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, who secured a silver medal in the women’s 57kg category, marking her international debut with a remarkable achievement.
Wrestler Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh (2nd place) of Phu Tho Wrestling won the Silver Medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship.
The Vietnamese team participated in this year’s tournament with 30 male and female athletes, competing across multiple disciplines: Men’s Freestyle Wrestling, Men’s Greco-Roman Wrestling, and Women’s Freestyle Wrestling, in both the Championship division and U17 youth category.
At just 16 years old, Hong Hanh—representing the Dat To Sports delegation—showed tremendous potential. Despite it being her first international appearance, she advanced confidently through the bracket and only narrowly lost to a teammate in the finals. Her silver medal not only adds to Vietnam’s medal haul but also signals a bright future for Phu Tho Wrestling on the regional stage.
The Vietnamese wrestling team won the overall first place at the 2025 Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship.
Held from May 10 to 12 (Singapore time), the championship drew athletes from across Southeast Asia, as well as participants from countries and territories including Taiwan (China), New Zealand, and Australia. The event served as a valuable platform for athletes to compete, exchange experiences, and hone their skills against top-tier regional opponents.
More importantly, the tournament also acted as a key selection ground for Vietnam’s national wrestling squad ahead of the 33rd SEA Games, scheduled to take place in Thailand later this year.
