These days, people in Phuong Vien ornament and flower village, Tan Phuong commune, Thanh Thuy district are busy taking care of flowers to supply to the market to serve the buying needs of people during the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024, considered the “golden season” for flower growers, because it is the most vibrant time of the fresh flower market during the year.

With the advantage of rich riverside land, Phuong Vien flower village’s fields are covered with bright colors of chrysanthemum, rose and peach gardens stretching as far as the eye can see. In order to have flowers supplied to the market in time for the Lunar New Year, every year, from the 8th lunar month onwards, flower growers begin to select seedlings for planting. Besides using drugs and chemicals to care for and protect flower plants, people also apply new techniques to help flowers achieve the best productivity and quality.

Taking us around the blooming chrysanthemum garden, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nho - Head of the craft village shared: “Our craft village currently has 24 members, including 12 flower growing households with more than 70 employees, and the flower growing area of about 5 hectares, mainly chrysanthemums, roses, peach blossoms...

According to flower growers, every year, from December 20, traders are present at the gardens to buy flowers and bring them to sell at traditional markets and deliver to stores. Every year, flowers such as: Chrysanthemums and roses during Tet are priced from 5,000 - 8,000 VND/ piece. On average, each year, the flower village supplies the market with about three billion flowers of all kinds, generating an income of tens to hundreds of million Vietnam dong per household during the Tet flower season.

Right next to Mr. Nho’s chrysanthemum garden are peach gardens that are being sold by the owners. Some are digging, some are transporting and some are seeing around, creating a bustling atmosphere throughout the flower fields. At the peach garden of Mr. Ly Son’s family - Zone 1, many peach trees have been dug, packed, tied with neat branches and gathered on the side of the road to wait for being transported by vehicles to localities inside and outside the province.

To have a beautiful peach garden, from the 10th lunar month, peach growers in the village put aside all other work and spend most of their time plucking leaves so that the peach trees can concentrate on nutrition to make buds, ensuring that flower buds bloom abundantly and evenly with thick petals and beautiful colors. According to the sharing of peach growers here, customers often prefer peach trees with beautiful branches, full canopy, many branches, and many flower buds. The older the peach, the more beautiful it is and the higher the price. A peach tree has a wholesale price at the garden from about 270,000 VND to several million VND depending on each type.
