On May 6–7 (the 10th day of the third lunar month), approximately 500 artisans and chefs from culinary associations and the Vietnam Chefs Association will gather at Duu Lau Communal House, Duu Lau Ward, Viet Tri City (Phu Tho Province), to prepare 100 grand offering trays featuring bánh chưng and bánh giầy. These ceremonial offerings will be presented to Prince Lang Lieu—the 7th Hung King, known as Hung Chieu Vuong—revered as the founder of Vietnamese culinary traditions.
This meaningful activity aims to honor traditional cultural values and promote the legacy of intangible cultural heritage, particularly the worship of the Hung Kings. It also serves to foster patriotism, express deep gratitude to the ancestors who built and defended the nation, and highlight the industrious and creative spirit of the local people.
Each tray is intricately arranged and respectfully presented to Prince Lang Lieu.
As part of the event, artisans will showcase signature dishes from provinces and cities across Vietnam, arranging them into a symbolic map of Vietnamese cuisine. The celebration will also include cultural performances by local artists—folk songs, traditional dances, and especially Xoan singing, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The program not only commemorates the contributions of Prince Lang Lieu but also helps participants explore the traditional cultural practices surrounding the worship of the Hung Kings. Visitors can witness and participate in the ancestral offering rituals dating back to the Hung era. This offers both domestic and international tourists a rich experience of Vietnam’s culinary traditions while deepening their understanding of Phu Tho’s unique historical and cultural heritage.
The event is organized by the People’s Committee of Duu Lau Ward, Viet Tri City, in collaboration with Masan Consumer Joint Stock Company, the Vietnam Chefs Association, and other local agencies and organizations.
