Approval of investment of over VND 635 billion to build the new Phong Chau bridge

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has just issued a decision approving the investment project to build the new Phong Chau Bridge—National Highway 32C, Phu Tho province—according to the Emergency Construction Order.

According to the approved plan, the project is invested with a total length of nearly 653m. The total investment of the project is over VND 635 billion, using the central budget reserve in 2024. Of which, in 2024, it is expected to allocate about VND 100 billion; in 2025, it is expected to be over VND 535 billion.

Of which, the cost of compensation, support, and resettlement is over VND 7.7 billion; construction and equipment costs are over VND 500 billion; project management costs are over VND 6 billion; construction investment consulting costs are over VND 25 billion; other costs are over VND 26 billion; and contingency costs are nearly 70 billion VND.

The new Phong Chau Bridge starts at Km0+00 (about Km21+50.0 of National Highway 32C avoiding Viet Tri City), in Phung Nguyen Commune, Lam Thao District. The end point is at Km0+652.88 (about Km18+551.4 of National Highway 32C), in Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District, Phu Tho Province.

According to the design, the new Phong Chau Bridge is more than 383m long (to the end of the abutment); the road section at both ends of the bridge connecting to the existing road on the Lam Thao side is about 113m, and on the Tam Nong side is nearly 156m.

The bridge is built permanently with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete with a bridge width of 20.5 m, suitable for the width of the roadbed.

The approved investment plan also mentions the dismantling of the remaining part and liquidation of the old Phong Chau Bridge assets. Specifically, the old Phong Chau bridge will dismantle the steel truss span and the reinforced concrete approach span, clear the substructure to ensure safe waterway traffic, and clear the flow.

In the next step, after having complete survey data, registering the old bridge, and the location of the dumping site, the investor and design consultant will choose the optimal dismantling plan, ensuring absolute safety and not affecting the progress of the construction of the new bridge; organize the liquidation and management of public assets according to regulations.

The new Phong Chau bridge project was invested in to promptly handle the collapse of the old Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C, ensuring urgency, quickly resolving the traffic disruption, overcoming the consequences of storms and floods, creating favorable conditions for people to travel across both sides of the river connecting Tam Nong district with Lam Thao district, Phu Tho province, and localities in the region, and supporting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.
