Completing the repair of the Trung Ha bridge before January 23
According to the Transport Infrastructure Management and Maintenance Department (under Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Transport), this unit has recently allowed the consultant to conduct a design survey and assigned the Phu Tho Department of Transport to immediately repair the erosion prevention of pillars T11 and T12 of the Trung Ha bridge. This is a bridge crossing the Da River downstream on National Highway 32, which connects Phu Tho province to Hanoi. The units will urgently complete before January 23.
Emergency repairs will ensure the bridge pier’s bearing capacity because this is the time when the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant discharges water for irrigation purposes, as planned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In the immediate future, the Vietnam Road Administration has spent 1.2 billion VND to repair the flow displacement phenomenon, which erodes the pillar and causes the opening of all pillar foundation piles. Furthermore, the authorities will investigate the long-term treatment plan. To ensure sustainability, they will also investigate piers that have not been damaged due to flow changes.
On December 28, 2023, the Department of Transport installed warning signs for danger, speed limits, and vehicle tonnage on the bridge to guide traffic between Phu Tho and Hanoi. Trucks with three or more axles and buses with more than 29 seats are not permitted to cross the bridge. However, the remaining vehicles are allowed to circulate normally.
