Visiting the flower market is a long-standing traditional cultural activity of the Vietnamese people every Tet holiday. During this time, the flower market at Hung Vuong Square in Viet Tri City has become lively and bustling. In addition to peach blossoms and kumquat trees, the market also offers hundreds of different types of flowers and ornamental plants. Each flower and plant has its own unique beauty, but they all share a common message of peace, prosperity, and happiness for every home. Each region brings its own flowers, creating a vibrant and colorful space.
The zodiac symbol of the snake is creatively displayed at the entrance of the spring flower market with joyful shapes and colors.
As in previous years, the Spring Flower Market of the Year of the Snake offers a variety of flowers and plants.
Traditional plants like peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and kumquat trees remain the most popular at the market. According to peach sellers, this year's favorable weather allowed farmers to "time" their crops just right for Tet, resulting in evenly blooming and beautiful peach blossoms.
The beautiful peach trees, full of flowers, are carefully transported by the gardeners.
Mai Chi, a Popular Flower Choice for Tet
Strolling through the flower stalls at the market, alongside the common flowers, you’ll find roses, azaleas, dahlias, chrysanthemums, and more.
Roses add a touch of elegance and vibrancy to the spring flower market.
The main offerings at the market include imported Phalaenopsis orchids from Da Lat, with vibrant colors like yellow, orange, red, purple, and white. The retail prices range from 200,000 to 400,000 VND per stem, depending on the quantity, color, and rarity of the flower. Orchids in various types, colors, and sizes are displayed for customers to admire and choose from.
Flower artisans carefully arrange flowers in pots for customers.
Shoppers come to admire and select their preferred orchid pots.
Dendrobium orchids are also popular due to their striking beauty in both shape and color.
Dendrobium Orchids: Not Only for Their Vibrant Colors but Also Their Durability
In recent years, Dien pomelo trees in pots have become quite popular among locals for their large trunks, abundant fruit, and yellow color, symbolizing wealth and good fortune.
Pomelo pots filled with ripe fruits are sold for prices ranging from several million to tens of millions of VND per pot.
The tradition of using kumquat trees during Tet is deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture, symbolizing prosperity and success in the new year.
Mr. Luong Van Ha, owner of a kumquat garden in Trung Vuong commune, Viet Tri city, shared: "This year, my garden has provided over 100 kumquat trees of various types, sizes, and shapes for the market. The pots of kumquat trees, priced between 200,000 VND and 3 million VND, are chosen by many people. If customers can’t find a suitable tree at the flower market, I will direct them to visit the garden to select one."
The trade of delivering kumquat and peach trees for Tet also becomes a busy profession during these days.
In addition to flowers and fruits, many types of ornamental plants and bonsai are also displayed at the Spring Flower Market.
After strolling around the flower market and finding a peach pot she liked, Nguyen Huong Trang from Vinh Tuong town (Vinh Phuc province) shared: “Every year, I go to the flower market. On the occasion of the end of the year when visiting relatives, my family goes to the Spring Flower Market in Viet Tri city to see and buy flowers. The flower market is beautiful, with a variety of types, including many beautiful bonsai plants such as pomelo, apricot, and kumquat.”
With the diversity of flowers and ornamental plants available, locals have more choices to enhance the spring atmosphere in their homes, ready to welcome a new year full of joy and new successes.
