Tien Luong Commune Claims First Prize at the 2026 Phu Tho Province Boat Racing Championship

On the morning of April 25 (the 9th day of the 3rd lunar month), at the Van Lang Park Lake, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism organized the 2026 Phu Tho Province Boat Racing Championship. This is a highly anticipated sporting event within the framework of the 2026 Hung Kings' Commemoration – Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week.

The event was attended by Mr. Bui Van Quang – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Manh Son – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; and leaders of various departments, sectors, and localities, along with a vast number of residents and tourists.

The 2026 championship featured 9 teams with 270 athletes from 8 communes and wards: Viet Tri, Thanh Mieu, Tam Nong, Tho Van, Dao Xa, Doan Hung, Tien Luong, and Song Lo. The participants are elite rowers meticulously selected by their localities, representing the martial spirit and sporting traditions of their hometowns.

Each boat consists of 22 members, including 20 rowers, 1 drummer to keep the rhythm, and 1 steersman. Teams competed in a knockout format over a total distance of 2.6km, with a turnaround at the 1.3km mark. Based on finishing times, the Organizing Committee selected the top three teams from the qualifiers to compete in the grand final.

The athletes participating in the championship are elite rowers carefully selected from their localities.

Under the enthusiastic cheers of the crowd, the teams demonstrated great solidarity and seamless coordination, creating thrilling competitions. With a determined competitive spirit, the Tien Luong Commune team excellently secured First Prize. Second Prize went to the Thanh Mieu Ward team, and Third Prize was awarded to the Doan Hung Commune team.

The championship aims to preserve and honor the unique cultural values of traditional boat racing. It is an occasion for the people to uphold the martial spirit and reenact the heroic history of national defense throughout thousands of years. Furthermore, it serves as a collective sporting arena for athletes to exchange experiences and strengthen community solidarity.
