Continuing his working agenda, on the morning of February 5, State President Luong Cuong—Commander-in-Chief of the People’s Armed Forces—and a Central working delegation visited and extended Lunar New Year greetings to the officers and soldiers of Military Region 2 for the Year of the Wood Horse 2026.

Accompanying the President were Mr. Tran Quang Phuong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and members of the Party Central Committee, including: Mr. Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Office of the President; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Quang Ngoc, Deputy Minister of National Defense; Mr. Nguyen Phi Long, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; and Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
Representing Phu Tho Province were Mr. Bui Minh Chau, former member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; along with other provincial leaders.
Reporting to the President, Major General Tran Van Bac, Commander of Military Region 2, stated that in 2025, the Military Region’s Command successfully fulfilled all assigned tasks. The unit proactively coordinated with local authorities to maintain security and ensure safety during major holidays and political events.
The Military Region promptly implemented the Ministry of National Defense’s decisions regarding the reorganization and merger of local military agencies. Notably, it strictly executed the policy of deploying regular army officers to serve in communal-level Military Commands. Furthermore, training, Party-building, and political activities were carried out effectively, while logistics and technical work ensured the well-being of the troops.
Addressing the forces, State President Luong Cuong affirmed that Military Region 2 has continued to uphold its glorious tradition, excellently performing its roles as a fighting, working, and labor force. It remains the core in building a nationwide national defense and a solid “people’s heart” position.

The Military Region has promptly implemented decisions from the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff regarding the reception, dissolution, merger, and reorganization of local military agencies. This includes the restructuring of commune and ward-level Military Commands under the Provincial Military Command. Furthermore, the Region has strictly executed the policy of assigning regular army officers to serve in communal Military Commands.
Simultaneously, training programs for all personnel have been organized with strict discipline. Party and political activities have been deployed comprehensively and effectively. Logistics, technical support, defense economics, and financial management have also been implemented holistically, achieving positive results and maintaining the living standards of the troops. Preparations for the 2026 Year of the Wood Horse Lunar New Year are being conducted systematically in accordance with the Ministry of National Defense’s directives, alongside welfare activities and gift presentations for policy-beneficiary families in the area.

In his keynote address, State President Luong Cuong affirmed that over the past year, the Military Region 2 armed forces have continued to uphold their glorious traditions. They have excellently fulfilled their triple role as a fighting force, a working force, and a labor force. They remain the core strength in building an all-people national defense, integrated with the people’s security posture and a solid “people’s heart” foundation.
Highlighting the global and regional security landscape, State President Luong Cuong requested the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Command of Military Region 2 to maintain a firm grasp of the situation. He urged them to coordinate closely with other forces and enhance their forecasting capabilities to advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on major strategies for national defense. He emphasized strengthening solidarity, maintaining discipline, and fostering innovation. Political and ideological education must remain a priority to build “exemplary and typical” comprehensively strong units, with political building as the foundation.
The President also stressed the importance of deeply grasping the Party’s military and defense guidelines, particularly the major orientations defined by the 14th National Party Congress. He called for researching and adjusting force disposition to align with the military’s modernization process. Focus must be placed on improving the overall strength and combat readiness of the forces, ensuring that training and drills are practical and tailored to potential combat scenarios.

Finally, he urged continued care for the material and spiritual well-being of officers and soldiers. For the immediate future, the Military Region must ensure a joyful, safe, and economical Tet for the troops while maintaining high combat readiness. Special attention should be given to those on special missions, those stationed at the borders, and families facing hardship, ensuring every soldier feels the care of the Party, State, and Military during the nation’s traditional New Year.
