Phu Tho in top3 of the highest PII index in Northern Midlands and Mountains region
After a year of development, the Ministry of Science and Technology published the ranking results of Provincial Innovation Index (PII) 2023 on March 12. The index presents a genuine, comprehensive view of each locality’s current socioeconomic growth model based on research, technology, and innovation.

In addition to rating innovation output and input, PII 2023 is graded according to six socioeconomic zones. As a result, Phu Tho is one of the top three localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region of the socio-economic region’s PII index, and ranks 20th out of 63 in terms of innovation.
PII is closely related to the framework of the Global Innovation Index (GII), which is issued yearly by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and has been utilized by the government in management since 2017. Data are collected from statistical reports and official management reports of central and local agencies, as well as from other sets of indicators (administrative reform, provincial competitiveness, digital transformation, provincial governance, and public administration efficiency).
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the PII index, with its broad and comprehensive scope, will be a tool for each province and city to examine in detail the aspects of output and input, clearly identifying strengths, weaknesses, potential factors, and necessary conditions to promote socioeconomic development based on science, technology, and innovation.
